Synchronizing Inventory and Labor to Improve Order Fulfillment

Building upon the strength of Ross Enterprise's enterprise track and trace capabilities, Ross Enterprise's warehouse management module tracks every unit in the warehouse down to its lowest level of detail, including lot number, serial number and date codes. By applying operational rules against these inventory attributes and order demand, the right inventory will be in the right location at the right time to maximize user productivity to shorten order fulfillment cycles.

Clients with fixed transportation schedules benefit from the warehouse management module's unique wave processing capabilities. As orders are received by the warehouse management module, they are automatically grouped together, based upon user defined criteria, which in this case is order shipment parameters. Ross Enterprise's warehouse management dynamically optimizes inventory allocation and system generated tasks (e.g. pick and replenishment tasks) for all pending orders in the system. This automatic route wave processing feature quickly delivers an executable order fulfillment plan, reducing the workload on the line managers and schedulers.

Cross-docking from the manufacturing line and outside suppliers increases throughput and expedite existing back orders. Pre-destined containers identified in Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) are directed to designated staging and dock doors. Whenever inbound goods can meet replenishment or picking requirements, these goods can be opportunistically cross-docked thus avoiding the double handling of goods.

Kitting and assembly, and value added services (such as RFID tagging) give companies the ability to meet specific needs of their customers. Pushing product and packaging customization to the end of the order fulfillment cycle best utilizes available inventory, reduces double handling of customized products and its storage requirements.

Workload planning and balancing is simplified with the dynamic workload monitor that offers drill down views of workloads across functional areas and zones. "What if scenarios" involving time and labor variables, enable managers to allocated resources across the warehouse to increase productivity—not headcount—and reduce labor costs.

Alert notification is an important component of the warehouse management module's production monitoring capabilities. When an imbalance exists between allocated resources and workload or should a user defined alarm level be met, graphical and email alerts are issued to the appropriate staff, so that they can resolve the issues before they negatively impact current operations.
