Ross Enterprise's Technology

Ross Enterprise's Internet Application Framework (IAF) provides the technology foundation for the flexible deployment and streamlined maintenance of Ross Enterprise's application suite. With this foundation, Ross Enterprise customers enjoy significant long-term benefits, including:

  • Extended scalability and performance
  • Increased flexibility and integration to other applications
  • Faster implementations
  • Lower total cost of ownership
  • Higher end-user satisfaction

Key components of the Internet Application Framework include:

iBrowser:

iBrowser provides a highly flexible internet-based front-end for Ross Enterprise's applications. Built as a direct extension to the underlying platform, iBrowser extends all of your applications directly to users via the Internet. User access requires no client software installation or web plug-ins. This true, zero-footprint client requires only an Internet connection and the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to provide secure access to your applications from any Windows-based computer. The benefits to your organization, in the form of reduced cost, improved flexibility and enhanced ease-of-use, are significant.

IAF Mobile:

Handheld and other mobile devices enable great flexibility in the deployment and use of enterprise software applications. IAF Mobile is the interface for extending Ross Enterprise's applications beyond the boundaries of the desktop workstations and laptop computers in the enterprise. The IAF Mobile client is a mobile smart client that can execute on devices that run the Pocket PC 2003 or CE 5.0 operating systems. IAF Mobile utilizes the Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 2.0 to provide all functionality that is used on the given devices. The mobile client leverages the same broker/server architecture used by the iBrowser zero-footprint client. However, IAF Mobile is a true "smart client" that resides on the mobile devices itself. It communicates directly with the web services and does not use HTML to render at the client. It renders the UIDL/URL that comes from/to the web service.

IAF Server:

Within the IAF architecture, the Application Server, Database Server, and UI Server provide customers with an enormous amount of scalability, flexibility, and performance. With a logical separation of functions, the system is easily and cost-effectively scaled to match the unique needs of each customer. The IAF Server architecture enables deployment of Ross Enterprise's applications anywhere at any time. It is particularly useful in multi-site or multinational implementations because it allows application servers to be hosted where IT staff can support them while extending applications via a browser to wherever they are required, regardless of the level of IT support at each individual location. Additionally, as underlying infrastructure or database changes are made, the applications and UI can remain undisturbed to insulate users and production systems from potential disruptions.

IAF Metadata:

Ross Enterprise leverages metadata at the center of our technology and applications. This provides the logical separation between the underlying technology and the Ross Enterprise applications. The use of metadata is the key enabler of our proven track-record of successful evolutions across technology paradigms without imposing feature-regression or rewritten, unstable applications on our customers. In practical applications, the Metadata-Based Architecture has been proven to deliver key business benefits, including low-cost deployment; streamlined upgrades; architecture flexibility; and hardware, operating system, and database portability.
