Supply Chain Solutions for Logistics Service Providers
Many of the activities required in supply chain execution are outside the core competencies of enterprises and therefore prime candidates for collaboration and outsourcing. In this context, warehousing, transportation, order fulfillment, and returns processing are often highly specialized functions.
But supply chain best practices designed to reduce costs and increase customer service levels cannot be implemented in isolated systems and participants alone. Through collaboration and inter-enterprise business processes, many of these best practices can be realized.
Requirements on increased speed in Supply Chain Execution (SCE) activities and the need for global visibility becomes extremely important as supply chains move from a single enterprise controlling multiple processes to multiple enterprises that control a single process distributed across trading partners.
Transportation companies and Logistics Service Providers (LSP) have to be masters of their supply chain, both forward and backward. While there is an increased emphasis on correct activity-based pricing of services, many also would like to see Logistics Service Providers become more strategic partners.
