Nellson Nutraceutical Inc. selects CDC Factory

ATLANTA, February 1, 2007—CDC Software today announced that Nellson Nutraceutical Inc. has selected CDC Factory to help maximize production efficiency at its plant in Salt Lake City, UT.

Headquartered in Irwindale CA, Nellson Nutraceutical manufactures a range of health products including nutrition bars and functional powders for the diet/weight loss, sports nutrition and bodybuilding markets.

In an increasingly competitive market space, Nellson's strategy to consolidate its position was to refocus efforts in a number of key areas, all of which required the foundation of a manufacturing operation that works to maximum levels of efficiency. The company's own manufacturing figures indicated that there were significant and attainable margins for improvement, if the underlying causes of lost production time could be established.

"We were able to get to the low-hanging fruit," says General Manager Jim Cudahy, "but we needed to get to the next level."

At about the same time, a group of Nellson Nutraceuticals personnel attending the 2006 Ross Systems User Conference saw a presentation of CDC Software's CDC Factory software suite. "Our people came back here saying to me 'you've got to see this,'" says Jim Cudahy, "and within a few days I had CDC Software here on site demonstrating the product."

CDC Factory delivers a combination of plant automation data together with lost-time information (added by production personnel at line-side) to a real-time factory dashboard, giving senior management all the information required to support improvement strategy.

Jim Cudahy has been running manufacturing operations for 25 years and he has seen numerous systems and methods designed to improve efficiency. He says, "Most methods involve either giving your employees the means to be more accountable for improvement, or recording and analyzing data to show where improvement is required. CDC Factory provides both – that's the magic."

It is anticipated that the CDC Software installation will help deliver a substantial contribution to Nellson's immediate objectives by facilitating efficiency improvement across the manufacturing unit. In addition to the cost savings, achieving a consistent level of manufacturing performance is expected to provide a solid base for the company's new business and customer service strategies.
