chinadotcom announces web clipping applications for use with PalmTM handheld computers

chinadotcom e-solutions's Web Connection appoints Anthony Houlahan to consolidate its fast-growing m-Business Practice

Hong Kong, December 13, 2000 — chinadotcom corporation (NASDAQ: CHINA: website: www.corp.china.com), a leading pan-Asia integrated Internet company, announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Web Connection, has developed a number of web clipping applications on behalf of its clients in Asia Pacific for use with the PalmO Mobile Internet Kit.

The Palm Mobile Internet Kit is the first product to enable most Palm handheld computer users to connect wirelessly to the Internet using a compatible data-enabled GSM mobile phone. Delivered on CD-ROM, the product is an easy-to-install, affordable software solution for any Palm handheld supporting Version 3.5 of the Palm OSR platform.

As part of its overall m-Business (Mobile Business) Practice initiatives, Web Connection has enabled AsiaStockWatch (ASW), a leading Pan-Asian financial news network, to become one of the first finance sites in Asia to provide information using web clipping technology.

At the end of November, another chinadotcom subsidiary, hongkong.com, announced the availability of a web clipping application, enabling users to extract information from hongkong.com websites wirelessly, without the burden of graphics and undesired information.

The development and release of these web clipping applications represent chinadotcom's eighth wireless initiative. Previous initiatives have included the partnering of chinadotcom's Internet services with mobile phone manufacturers Siemens and Motorola, mobile phone service operator New World Mobility, and wireless communications product distributor Cellstar.

Added to seven other wireless initiatives since July 2000, and a thriving m-Business Practice, chinadotcom has consolidated its wireless efforts in a drive to become the leader in the global wireless business.

Peter Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer of chinadotcom, said, "We are pleased to develop market-leading applications which bring chinadotcom's valuable services and information to users of the leading handheld computer in the world marketplace. Our portal network's content and services are available on all WAP-enabled phone handsets in countries such as China, where we are the only Internet company with this capability. The chinadotcom group will aggressively address the myriad market opportunities presented by the emerging wireless technologies in Asia."

Web Connection's m-Business Practice is emerging as among the world leaders in m-Business consulting. Since its 1999 launch, Web Connection's m-Business has grown from a Wireless Lab in Singapore and i-Mode Center in Excellence in Japan to eleven m-Business client engagements across Asia Pacific with leading financial services, travel and other multinational corporations. Key partners such as Nokia, Motorola, Siemens, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard and Vignette augment its ability to deliver robust solutions to enterprise clients.

Web Connection's subsidiary Venex in Tokyo completed its first wireless engagement with a division of NTT more than 2 years ago and has since completed 3 additional wireless engagements. Its subsidiary XT3 in Sydney, Australia, has completed an m-Business engagement in the Philippines. Its list of blue chip clients and technically diverse m-Business strategies and solutions gives it a strong competitive edge.

According to IDC, the global market for m-Business consulting services will reach US$10 billion by 2003. To accelerate its growing leadership in this dynamic marketplace, Web Connection recently appointed Anthony Houlahan to the position of m-Business Practice Leader. As head of its m-Business group, Mr. Houlahan is responsible for the firm's m-Business market strategy and building its global implementation capabilities.

"I welcome Anthony's assumption of management responsibilities for our m-Business efforts. His challenge is to leverage our hard earned reputation, resources and leadership as an Asian-born e-business integrator and extend our integration capabilities to help clients create value across all digital technologies," said Mr. Steve McKay, Senior Vice President of chinadotcom e-solutions' unit Web Connection.

Commented Mr. Houlahan, "The mobile Internet offers new ways for enterprises to build stronger and deeper relationships with their customers and increase the productivity of their employees. Our efforts will be aimed at assisting our clients increase the value of the services they provide to their customers, employees and business partners. To build on our progress as a clear m-Business leader in the next 12 to 18 months, it will be my job to ensure that, according to our implementation schedule, each of our operations is instilled with the thought leadership and technical skills required to maximize our share of this rapidly growing market."
