Pivotal and webPLAN Make Integrated Demand and Supply Chains a Reality

Integrated solution - first to achieve end-to-end value-chain capabilities

Whistler, BC, August 30, 2000 — Pivotal Corporation (Nasdaq NM: PVTL; TSE: PVT) and webPLAN Inc., the leading provider of e-Business solutions for manufacturers, today announced the integration of Pivotal's demand chain network solution with the webPLAN CeO solution-set. The hybrid solution simplifies the selling and fulfillment process by giving customers an intuitive, personalized e-Commerce front end for configuring and placing orders, fully integrated with manufacturing systems and the supply chain back end, in real-time, over the Internet. The Pivotal/webPLAN integrated solution was announced and demonstrated at "Reach the Peak 2000," Pivotal's third annual Worldwide Customer Conference, in Whistler, BC, Canada.

"The webPLAN/Pivotal integration eliminates the chasm between the demand chain and the supply chain," said Michael Ker, president and CEO, webPLAN Inc. "This will allow our joint customers to increase revenues by producing and delivering their products faster, and more reliably than their competitors. webPLAN's ability to deliver those benefits to customers is at the heart of our growth strategy, and building strategic alliances with like-minded companies, such as Pivotal, enables us to execute our strategy more rapidly."

According to Norm Francis, president and CEO, Pivotal, "The successful integration of Pivotal's demand chain network solution and webPLAN CeO is a major development in our strategy to fulfill demand in the international large-enterprise market for an integrated demand and supply chain. The Pivotal/webPLAN solution provides value throughout the business web of global manufacturing companies that require a completely integrated best-of-breed platform built entirely on the Microsoft .NET platform."

How it works:
Business-to-business (B2B) customers of a manufacturing company with the integrated Pivotal/ webPLAN solution log on to the manufacturer's web site using a standard browser. Pivotal's technology then leads them through the entire buying experience-complete with needs analysis, recommendations and advice-resulting in a customized order that meets their exact needs. The demand order is seamlessly integrated with manufacturing data, and the customer instantly receives a Capable-to-Promise (CTP) date. If shortages of parts or components are delaying the delivery, suppliers of those elements are instantly alerted to demand for their supplies, and they too can access the manufacturing data, using only a browser, to optimize production and delivery schedules based on the customer demand.

Market Opportunity:
The Supply Chain Management (SCM) market generated $2.6 billion in revenues in 1998, according to AMR Research Inc. The expected use of the Web as a facilitator of inexpensive real-time access to salient data on the part of all participants in any given supply chain is expected to accelerate SCM market growth to $18.6 billion in 2003. Web-based SCM is another piece of the business-to-business e-commerce market which, according to the Yankee Group, is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 41% over the next five years, reaching $541 billion.
