Pivotal continues aggressive expansion in Europe
— Pivotal Corporation (Nasdaq: PVTL) The eBusiness Relationship Company™, today announced that the company is establishing an eBusiness Center of Excellence in Belfast. The investment, which is backed by the Industrial Development Board (IDB) for Northern Ireland, is part of Pivotal's continued aggressive expansion in Europe.
Pivotal's success in the European market is already established. The company currently has more than 130 enterprise customers in Europe, including Agfa, Elf, Ericsson, Foss, FPDSavills, Miller Freeman, Novartis, Siemens, Telenor, and Telia.
"Pivotal is committed to providing solutions that enable European companies to make a fast, seamless transition to eBusiness - our new center in Northern Ireland is an important advancement to furthering this goal," said Norm Francis, president & CEO of Pivotal Corporation. "As an emerging European center of technology, Belfast is an ideal location for us to establish a major Pivotal eBusiness Center of Excellence."
Pivotal's new facilities will take full advantage of the talent pool and development resources in Northern Ireland and will employ people in areas such as research and development, technical support, training, and professional services.
According to Adam Ingram, MP, Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office, "Pivotal is an ambitious company with an impressive record of enabling companies worldwide to make a fast transition to eBusiness. We are thrilled that this world-class company, a market leader in eBusiness solutions, has chosen to establish a Pivotal eBusiness Center of Excellence, with a technical support center and a research and development unit, in Belfast."
According to Francis, "Pivotal selected Northern Ireland for the eBusiness Center of Excellence because the region offers compelling business advantages for North American companies. Northern Ireland provides a well-educated, skilled workforce, solid telecommunications infrastructure, reasonable operating costs, government-backed incentive programs and a good standard of living. All of these benefits position Northern Ireland very competitively in the global digital economy."
According to the IDB, approximately 10,000 young people join the work force in Northern Ireland each year, many with degrees in information technology, engineering and other science degree programs with significant IT content. More than 1,000 computer science majors graduate each year with skills in software engineering, systems analysis and design, networks and data communications, database techniques, artificial intelligence and multimedia, as well as in programming languages including Java, C and C++.
Northern Ireland universities have a strong eBusiness emphasis, with internationally recognized research centers in software, telecommunications and electronics. Northern Ireland's two universities, the Queen's University of Belfast and the University of Ulster, work closely with companies operating in Northern Ireland to develop new products and processes.
According to Francis, "Northern Ireland's progressive approach to education and its business-friendly government are major incentives for North American companies that want to effectively reach markets across Europe."
