Hong Kong, January 18, 2000 — chinadotcom corporation (NASDAQ: CHINA; www.corp.china.com) today announced the opening of four new offices in China located in the cities of Dalian, Qingdao, Tianjin, and Fuzhou. Dedicated to extending the company's existing e-Commerce strengths in China, these locations add to chinadotcom corporation's existing offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. With the addition of these four offices, chinadotcom corporation now employs more than 300 professionals throughout the country. The company also plans to open three offices in Chengdu, Hangzhou and Xi'an during the first quarter of this year, bringing the total number of offices in China to twelve.

Commented Mr. Peter Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer of chinadotcom corporation, "We are really laying solid foundations in order to capitalise on the future development of the Internet in China. We're building local content and services that appeal to local tastes and attitudes and developing e-commerce services that facilitate the growth of business and exports in China. In 1998, according to IDC, the online market in China was worth about US$8.1 million, whereas by 2003 it will be worth in excess of US$3.8 billion. This growth is what we're positioning ourselves both to drive and capitalise on, and we're working with the Chinese Government to help determine the Internet and e-commerce landscape for the future."

Also in China, chinadotcom corporation's portal network today was recognized as one of the top three web sites by the China Talent Contest (CTC) in two primary categories. The portal sites china.com & cww.com earned a shared award in the integrated portal category and shanghai.china.com won an award for superior lifestyle content.

CTC Online conducts contests of web sites that focus on Mainland China in an effort to recognise the achievements of influential and popular websites designed in Mainland China. Winners are determined by committee recommendation in a first round and on-line national public polling.

Mr. Zhou Shun Ao, chinadotcom corporation's Chief China Officer, said, "Even though we are a relatively new portal in China, we are achieving steady growth and we look forward to our continued success as an Internet industry leader in Mainland China as well as in Asia."

chinadotcom corporation, the first Chinese Internet company to be listed on NASDAQ, has been integral to the opening of the Mainland market to on-line transaction opportunities by building content- and geography-centred communities throughout the country. The company continues to accelerate the development of the Mainland Internet industry through e-Commerce initiatives such as Beijing Digital Ark, a recent joint venture to develop proprietary applications and services in China. This and other e-Commerce initiatives will benefit from the enhanced support provided by the establishment of the new chinadotcom corporation offices announced today.

Mr. Edward Hsu, the firm's Chief Technology Officer, said, "Our users are benefiting from our creative application of technology, which encourages them to return time and time again to our web sites to visit our interesting and relevant community services. We are planning to launch many community services, including Post4U and Home4U, in China in the near future. We are seeing increased 'stickiness' or repeat visits from our community services users and we believe these loyal users will form a valuable platform for e-Commerce services." Post4U and Home4U are community services currently available on the hongkong.com portal web sites that provide user-directed newsletters and infrastructures for building on-line user communities, respectively.
