Hong Kong, December 20, 1999 — chinadotcom corporation's web solution arm announced today that two of its clients' web sites, the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) and the Hong Kong Arts Festival, have won "Best Public Sector Site" and a finalist ranking, respectively, in the UUNET / South China Morning Post (SCMP) Business Web Sites of the Year Awards in Hong Kong. Both web sites were developed by the Web Connection, chinadotcom corporation's e-business solution company.

Peter Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer of chinadotcom corporation, said, "When creating these sites, the Web Connection considered what the organizations needed to accomplish - which was to communicate simply and clearly about the events and activities they were planning and to provide entertaining content to drive repeat traffic. The judging criteria for these awards were based on business transformation, innovation, communication, measurable business benefits, and user appeal. Emphasis was placed on to what extent the web site increased operational efficiency, improved customer service and communications, and whether the Internet was used as a strategic tool in business growth.

The Hong Kong Tourist Association site (located at, which offers content in eight languages, six web cams over Hong Kong, an e-card development capability, and free downloading of 200 photographs of Hong Kong, asks users to enter their home location and provides customized information according to the location and demands of the user.

Operating under the theme, "City of Life", the site also provides an e-zine, personalized Chinese horoscopes, interactive stories, as well as virtual tours for potential Hong Kong visitors.

chinadotcom corporation, through its subsidiary the Web Connection, partnered with the HKTA to re-launch the site in December 1998 and since that time traffic on the site has increased four-fold, and now logs an average of 12 million hits a month, and recently registered 1 million hits a day for two consecutive weeks.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival site, (located at a finalist among the considered sites, was developed to allow users to review programmes, use a booking guide to make reservations and purchase tickets, get information on venue locations and facilities, and search for performances according to title and category. A "Browse Program" function features QuickTime real video clips for users to review shows in advance of making bookings.

The site also lets users register for an email notification of updated performance information as well as register friends to receive an email informing them of festival activities. Additionally, for the first time the Web Connection designed interactive screen savers that link directly to the site as well as an interactive VCD/CD.
